Let’s start this post with big thanks to Florian for his donation, appreciate your support! Until today I didn’t know much about Steam’s VAC (anti-cheat), but recent of made me look into it. So apparently there is a Team Fortress API that allows to view player Steam bans even if profile is private. I couldn’t find this API on official Steam dev wiki, so I improvised, and what do you know, it works!
Arma 3 GTA IV Black Ops 2 COD AW L4D2 Portal 2 Portal VAC in CSGO 130 days ago.
This API provides the following:. Community ban = Steam forums ban. VAC ban = Banned from using a VAC enabled game (Arma 3 is not VAC enabled). VAC ban count = From how many VAC games player is banned.
Days since last ban = Number of days since the last ban. Economy ban = Something to do with Steam Economy and trading How can this help with Arma 3?
Well, it could be used as some sort of credit check, so to speak. Valve claims that VAC is very reliable and they never revert VAC bans. Truth be told, I have no experience with VAC but if I saw a player on my server with a ban endorsed by Steam, I would probably consider this player a potential cheat. So I made another extension to get the ban info from Steam for the joining player. It works very much like getfriends extension (I only needed to modify it a bit), so please refer to the for more info. The output of the extension is again, either: ”WAIT” – still fetching, ”” – failed or:.
My profile check. Be very careful with that. When Valve says “never” they mean that quite literally. Basically it means that a punishment from valve lasts longer than a murder charge in most countries would. Oh and even though Valve did recently improve their account security, VAC entries from before these improvements still remain active.
In my specific case I had my account stolen 6!!! The VAC entry from back then is still active and even though it only affects half-life, it could still cause problems depending on just how narrow-minded a server-admin decides to be. Cool, I did similar stuff for Sourcemod.
Are you using XML profile format or Steam WebAPI? Keep in mind that not everyone with a VAC ban is automatically a cheater.
Get banned for running (just running, not using on any Valve’s product!) certain RE tools while playing secured games. I also know a friend who got his (now 300+ games) account VAC banned because he had his account taken over (that were pre-SteamGuard times) I think it is a good idea to add a last ban time check to ignore results for players with really old bans, to make sure no mission author abuses legitimate players.
FROM: High Command TO: Arma 3 Users INFO: 1.64 RC Started, Tanoa Structures Improvements, Valve Anti-Cheat PRECEDENCE: Flash SITUATION Testing of the upcoming '1.64' has begun last week. Bringing several improvements to the Apex Protocol campaign and aiming to improve the stability of the game, it also brings a handful of small tweaks, which will benefit everyone (more on them later in this report). Everybody is encouraged to try the RC build on their own, and to visit the or the for more information. Don't forget to provide feedback, and report issues to our, it is being monitored actively by our QA. OPERATIONS The Art Department in Team Mike has taken it upon themselves to improve the structures of Tanoa.
Responding to community feedback on Tanoa, they're now working on a way to better communicate the accessibility of buildings. Creative Director on the topic: 'Of course, the terrain is already released and many splendid community scenarios are already built. With this in mind, the improvements focus on the addition of simple models, such as locks, barricades, etc., placed in the immediate proximity of doors. We hope these will be consistent and recognisable, without unduly affecting any existing community content; players should immediately know whether or not the building they're looking at can serve as a hide-out.' As the work is still at its beginning, we don't expect to release it with the 1.64 update, though bits of the changes have recently started to appear on.
